Adela the Attorney

A graduate of UC Berkeley's School of Law, Adela was a kick ass attorney. Yes, she grumbled about the legal profession and her job but she was brilliant and had an amazing win record. She was a compelling and persuasive writer, her research skills were enviable, and she was the hardest working attorney I know. Which is saying a lot. She is an attorney of record on at least two published cases that I know of. In 2005 she along with her legal partner won at $35 million dollar jury verdict on behalf Tae Bo founder Billy Banks. It was the largest jury verdict won for an individual in California that year. Even though the verdict was overturned on appeal because of a mistake by the judge the case still settled for a substantial (confidential) amount. In 2000 Adela took a break from her corporate practice and joined me in representing tenants suing their slum lords. We got a major settlement for our clients before Adela went back to business litigation. Adela took a break from practicing to live abroad with her partner Todd, who worked for the UN. But Adela was recently dipping her toe back into the legal arena. Her most recent legal work involved representing workers in their cases against Amazon. Adela was also quick to use her skills to support her friends. She never hesitated to show up when someone needed legal muscle in a sticky situation. She had big muscles and the legal profession has suffered a great loss.
